Currently, each of the networks has a separate data portal. Each portal is designed to query the individual participating institutions separately and return query results in a standardized format. You can search for collection data and map specimens that have latitude and longitude coordinates. Click on the logo of one of the networks to the right to open the related portal page.

  • If your search times out, try searching fewer data publishers.
  • You will note there are two columns on your results page. A red "X" indicates the data publisher is currently down. The individual data publisher will need to be contacted to correct this. Please email the VertNet Coordinator if this occurs.

Stumped? Review detailed instructions on building a query using ORNIS. These instructions apply to all the networks.

  • Under the two columns, you may see more specimens are available for your query than returned. This indicates the data publisher may have a limit on how many results they allow to be returned at one time. Try searching the catalog numbers in sequence or contact the data publisher for more information.

Due to the growing participation in these networks, there may be more data publishers than these portals can access at one time. A major goal for VetNet is to improve the search function and provide new visualization tools. We are still in the pre-development stage and your input is welcome.
