You can support biological collections by joining the letter writing campaign through the American Institute of Biological Sciences (AIBS) website. In a collaboration with the National Science Collections Alliance (NSCA), the campaign is to request a Presidential Executive Order to improve federal support of our public and private collections for the enhancement of research and education.

  • The new Darwin Core standard has passed public review and has been ratified. Read more about Darwin Core here.
  • Outcomes of the International eBiosphere Conference on Biodiversity Informatics in Londonin June are available here. VertNet was well represented along with many other cutting edge biodiversity initiatives.
  • The VertNet Demo Search Portal is available! Use it to search result sets for MaNIS, HerpNET, ORNIS and FishNet II through a new VertNet portal with a familiar look and feel.
  • A georeferencing workshop was offered through the Danish Biodiversity Information Facility (DanBIF) January 27-29, 2009 at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark.
    • HerpNET is in the process of repatriating georeferenced data. Each participant will be contacted individually with information and instructions. Once the data has been returned, we ask participants to update their databases as soon as possible. For more information on repatriation files, go to HerpNET or contact Carol Spencer.
